Gaussian Mixture Model-Based Classification of Corrosion Severity in Concrete Structures Using Ultrasonic Imaging

Abstract Corrosion in reinforced concrete (RC) structures is associated with a reduction of the rebar diameter, loss interfacial bond, cracking, and eventual spalling probable collapse structure. The negative effects corrosion on structural safety, durability, longevity imposes significant costs national economy. Therefore, planned non-destructive testing (NDT) essential to enhance safety economic sustainability infrastructure. Previous work by research group has established capability ultrasonic Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique (SAFT) as tool for detection corrosion. This extends previous towards application statistical learning ascertaining severity through analysis SAFT images rebar. Using features extracted from images, Gaussian mixture model (GMM) implemented classify damage results positively demonstrate potential proposed technique an enabler decisions pertaining maintenance timely repair infrastructural assets.
